Coach Rico Cooper

  Coach Rico Cooper is a 2023 Hastings High School graduate. During his time at Hastings HS, he was All-State two times taking 6th in both his junior and senior years. He was also a key member of the 2023 State Championship Team.  This is Rico's first year coaching and he got into coaching because of Coach Josh McLay and Coach Tim Haneberg. He wanted to coach in order to give back to the community that helped him out throughout his life. He is excited to coach in Hastings in order to see high school kids transform into young men and women.  His favorite memory of Hastings wrestling has been the 2023 State Championship match. 

Coach Jake Gotto

  Coach Jake Gotto is originally from Dubuque, Iowa and graduated from Western Dubuque High school (Iowa) in 2012 where he was a four year HS starter, had 100 varsity wins by Junior year, was a 2x State Qualifier, and at time of graduation, he was in the top five of most wins in school history. After high school, Jake wrestled at Coe College.  Jake has been coaching for 6 years since graduating college. This includes running the Marion Kids Club and coached at Marion High School (2 years). He also volunteered at Eagle Grove kids club (1 year). He also coached at Ankeny High School (1 year) and moved to Virginia where he coached at Cosby High School (1 year). He wanted to coach in Hastings because he heard great things about the athletes and coaching staff. He is excited to work with motivated and committed coaches and wrestlers. Coach Isaac Eichmann

Coach Isaac Eichmann is a 2012 Hastings High School graduate. In high school, he was All-Conference 4t times and All-State 2 times, taking 2nd both time.  He was also a team captain during his senior year and lead the team to a 4th place. After high school, he wrestled for RCTC but had to cut his time short due to injuries. Coach Isaac has been coaching for 7 years total. Three of those years were coaching youth and Freestyle/Greco with Lake City, three years doing Freestyle/Greco in Byron, and is entering his first year with Hastings High School. Isaac said he wanted to coach in Hastings because, "I was raised in the Hastings wrestling community and I have always wanted to give back everything that I can." What he loves most about the program is the people and town. He said, "It has been years since I have been able to walk around the town I live in and overhear people talking about wrestling as a common topic. This town cares and I love it." Coach Angie McLay

  Coach Angie McLay is a 1997 Hastings HS graduate. While she never officially wrestled, she has been wrestling her brother Josh McLay most of her life and winning most of their childhood matches. This is Coach Angie's first year coaching at HHS and she wanted to coach in order to help the growth of young ladies in wrestling and the sport of women’s wrestling.  Her favorite thing about Hastings wrestling is being  in a program that helps change the path of children’s lives. Coach Angie's favorite moment of Hastings wrestling has been watching the young men and women overcome obstacles to obtain their goals. Also upsetting STMA at the high school tournament last year.  She is most excited to see the  growth and development of women’s wrestling. Coach Angie has 3 boys Paul 25, Lynden 22, Mac 22. Lynden and Mac were both wrestlers for HHS, state qualifiers, and Lynden coached at HHS for one season.  Finally, Coach Angie wanted to add, " I love Hastings wrestling!!"

Coach Corey Latuff

Coach Corey Latuff is a 2011 Hastings High School graduate. During high school, he was a two-time All-State wrestling taking 2nd & 5th. He was also two-time All-Conference and one time All-Conference honorable mention. Corey has been coaching in Hastings for many years at a variety of levels but mostly with our youth program and  Co-Head Youth coach from 2022-present. Corey wanted to come back to Hastings and coach in order to give back to the community, support the great people in the wrestling family, and help Hastings wrestling continue to be great! Corey said his favorite thing about coaching in Hastings is " Helping our kids learn how to work hard and have a positive mental attitude." His favorite coaching memory of Hastings wrestling is b ringing STMA to the brink last year in the 7/8 grade state finals. Coach Kya Rybachek

Coach Kya Rybachek is originally from Hibbing, MN and graduated from Hibbing HS in 2020. While in high school, he was voted Ms. Minnesota, the recipient of  the Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award, was a MWCA folkstyle state champion, and a MNUSA junior triple crown winner. Kya also had a winning varsity record against boys, multiple time Northern Plains Champion, Fargo All-American, AAU National Champion, USA folkstyle All-American, and a USA Preseason All-American. After high school she attended Augsburg University where she was a regional Champ, 2x NCAA qualifier, 4th place NCAA All-American, and a 3x Academic All-American.  Kya began he coaching career in Hibbing where she coached the youth program for two years. One thing that she is most excited about from coaching in Hastings is the large growth of their girls program. Coach Joe Lawler

  Coach Joe Lawler is originally from Rochester, MN and attended Rochester Mayo High School, graduating in 2002. In high school, he was a team captain and a two-time state place winner: 4th in 2001 and 5th in 2002. Coach Lawler began his coaching career at Rochester Mayo (2013-2020) for 8 years before moving to Hastings where he has been coaching our youth program for two years (2022-Present).  Coach Lawler got into coaching in Hastings because his son wrestles for the youth program. His favorite thing about Hastings wrestling is the culture. Joe's favorite memory of Hastings wrestling was watching the 2023 Team win the 3A Team State Title. In the future, he is most excited  to watch Max and his friends wrestle for the program. Joe has been married for 7 years this month and has 3 children; Max (5), Reese (4), and #3 coming in February 2024. Coach Lawler had a few more things to add as well.
